What is a Face Lift procedure?

Facelift also known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that tightens and removes sagging skin on the face and neck. It’s the most effective procedure to address significant sagging and smoothen deep wrinkles and folds. Facelifts can be performed on cheeks, jawlines, neck, and upper face.

Facelift aims to reduce the signs of aging by improving the contours of the face and neck. It helps to make the face and skin appear younger and smoother. The facelift procedure is customized to each individual’s facial anatomy and personal preferences. The surgical approach and techniques used are tailored to the unique needs and desired outcomes of the person undergoing the procedure.

How does it work?

Every facelift procedure follows a carefully planned step-by-step process to ensure optimal results. The following steps explain you on how the facelift works:

  • The first step involves administering anesthesia to the patient, ensuring their comfort during the surgery.
  • Next, the surgeon creates small incisions along the hairline, taking into account the specific technique used and the patient’s individual needs.
  • The underlying facial tissues are then repositioned and lifted to restore volume and address sagging and drooping.
  • Excess skin is carefully removed, and the remaining skin is tightened to achieve a smoother and more youthful appearance.
  • The incisions are meticulously closed, resulting in minimal scarring that will gradually fade over the course of several months.

Benefits:

  • Tightens Your Skin
  • Rewinds the Aging Process
  • Can Be Combined with Other Procedures
  • Less Invasive
  • Natural Look
  • Lasting Results
  • Both Genders Can Benefit from It

What to expect after treatment?

While most individuals can resume public appearances within 10-14 days after a facelift, it typically takes 2-3 months for the face to fully recover in terms of texture, sensitivity, and tightness. Maintaining daily sun protection and a healthy lifestyle can help prolong the results of the facelift. As swelling and bruising diminish, the visible improvements of the procedure become apparent. The ultimate outcome should not only yield a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance but also boost self-confidence. While favorable outcomes are expected, there are no guarantees. In some cases, optimal results may require additional surgical procedures. It is essential to follow the instructions of your physician to ensure the success of the surgery.

Pre & post care instructions:

Pre-treatment instructions:

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, Vitamin E, herbal supplements, or any medications containing these compounds for two weeks before surgery.
  • Do use hair treatments or color your hair for at least 2 weeks before the procedure.
  • Avoid Smoking for few day before the treatment.
  • Do not eat or drink anything, including water, on the morning of surgery.
  • Do not wear any facial or eye makeup. Avoid nail polish.

Pre-treatment instructions:

  • Iced gauze pads (gauze pads dipped in ice water and wrung out) should be applied to the eyes and cheeks for the first 48 hours to minimize swelling and discoloration.
  • Avoid the dressing part while washing the face.
  • Take all medications as instructed postoperatively.
  • Avoid alcohol.

Side Effects:

  • A stiff, puffy, and numb face for a few weeks or months.
  • Minimal bruising on the treated area.
  • Scars these fades, but will not completely disappear.
  • A raised hairline or sideburn.

Session and durations:

A facelift is generally done under general anesthesia and can take anywhere from 3-4 hours to complete.

Contraindications:

Certain factors and conditions may make a person less suitable for a facelift:

  • Poor medical health: Significant underlying medical conditions may increase the risks associated with the surgery.
  • Blood-thinning medications: Continuous use of blood-thinning medications can lead to excessive bleeding during the procedure.
  • Unrealistic expectations: Patients with exaggerated hopes or unrealistic expectations about the results may not be suitable candidates.
  • Heavy smokers: Smoking can impair healing and raise the risk of complications, so smokers may be advised to quit or reduce smoking prior to the surgery.
  • Fine wrinkles: Fine wrinkles that can be managed with nonsurgical treatments may not require a Facelift.

Secondary facelifts: Performing a second facelift should be done cautiously as scar tissue from the initial surgery can affect tissue planes and increase the risk of facial nerve damage..

What is the difference between a total facelift & a lower facelift?

A traditional total facelift addresses sagging in the mid-face, jowl, and neck while a lower facelift focuses primarily on the jawline and neck. A lower facelift focuses on tightening the platysma or neck muscles. A lower facelift can be good for younger patients with early aging of the lower portion of the face.

What is the recovery time?

Though the swelling persists for several weeks, most patients can return to work within two weeks.

Habits such as smoking and drinking should be stopped a couple of weeks before surgery, to facilitate the healing process. The client should discuss with their doctor regarding any pre-existing health conditions or medications.

The client requires a few days to a couple of weeks of rest after surgery, depending on the procedure performed. Timely consumption of medicines and healthy eating habits as recommended by the surgeon is preferred. It is advised to discontinue smoking to maintain the longevity of the results. Strenuous physical activity is to be avoided for up to two months.

A facelift is a surgical intervention aimed at treating the noticeable effects of aging on the face and neck. It entails lifting and repositioning the underlying facial tissues, eliminating surplus skin, and tightening the remaining skin. The objective is to create a rejuvenated and youthful look by addressing concerns such as sagging skin, wrinkles, and diminished facial volume. The exact techniques employed may differ, but the overall goal is to achieve a more refined and firmer facial appearance. It is crucial to consult with an experienced plastic surgeon to determine the most suitable approach based on individual requirements and desired results.
